Diet Coke Gets a MakeoverDate: Tue, 6. September 2011 08:10:52
Coca Cola is 125 years old this year, and the first official extension of the brand, Diet Coke, was launched in 1982. So the Turner Duckworth design firm, based in San Francisco, were asked to give the can a makeover. And this is more of a complete facelift than a tweaking of the font.
It's brave to say the least, although the traditional colors of silver, black and red have been retained. Personally, I like it when companies take risks, and this is one of them. But I think it will do well. It's bold, it's still using the color scheme that everyone is familiar with (so it won't get blank stared) and it's no doubt going to get a pick-up in sales. Will it last? Who knows.
For the record, Diet Coke's recipe has not been redesigned. It's still the same, a lesson learned from New Coke.
