Steve Jobs Takes Leave of Absence From AppleDate: Thu, 15. January 2009 15:06:14
An anonymous reader writes with this excerpt from Network World: "A number of sites are reporting that Apple's CEO Steve Jobs is taking a leave of absence till June at least. Speculation over Jobs' possibly failing health has run rampant in the past few weeks. Prior to the recent MacWorld show, Jobs said he had a hormone deficiency that had caused him to dramatically lose weight. In a memo today Jobs told workers his health issues are more complex than he thought." Reader Bastian227 adds a link to this letter from Steve Jobs on Apple's website, which also says that Tim Cook will be responsible for daily operations, though Jobs will remain involved with major strategic decisions.pa href="http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/01/14/2239219amp;from=rss"img src="http://slashdot.org/slashdot-it.pl?from=rssamp;op=imageamp;style=h0amp;sid=09/01/14/2239219"/a/ppa href="http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/01/14/2239219amp;from=rss"Read more of this story/a at Slashdot./p

Nike Factory Strike in Vietnam Settled - for $6 a MonthDate: Wed, 2. April 2008 19:38:46
This is why I rant about how unjust globalization truly is. Not only does the incredibly low labor cost - much of which is due to a lack of oversight in factories - mean that not only do jobs go overseas, the people who get the jobs aren't even paid fair wages. So people who say we are "spreading the wealth" globally are either foolish or lying because they work for a corporation making $$$ off of the arrangement.

Leadership: How to say "no" while also inspiring peopleDate: Mon, 30. May 2011 13:12:20
Leadership is all about focusing energy on achieving an important goal. In achieving focus, leadership is implicitly saying “no” to all the other less-important things that might be attempted at this time. In this sense, “saying no” to trivia and distractions is the essence of leadership. For instance, Steve Jobs.
Steve Jobs says no many times
A big part of Steve Jobs’ success has been to shed all the good ideas that don’t make the final cut. Carmine Gallo in an interesting article, “Steve Jobs: Get Rid Of the Crappy Stuff” writes: “Editing also leads to great product designs and effective communications. According to Steve Jobs, ‘People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying ‘no’ to 1,000 things.’”
